Theaterbesuch des Leistungsfachs Englisch
On November 17th, 2025, our English master class visited the Nuremberg Schauspielhaus in preparation for the theatre play “Bunbury – Feeling Ernst“ by Julia Prechsl. It’s based on the play “The Importance of Being Ernest“ by Oscar Wilde. The drama teacher Anja Sparberg welcomed our class at the entrance and told us about the actors presented on a wall on the 1st floor. She then guided us to the stage where we had the rare opportunity to feel the atmosphere on stage and backstage. Afterwards we were able to view the stage design and props, for example a rideable dragon. At the end of the tour through the theatre we arrived at the last destination: the room where the stage props are designed and built. There Mrs. Prechsl gave us multiple scripts of scenes from the play „Bunbury“, which we rehearsed and thus allowed us to gain insight into an actor’s job. It was a memorable experience beyond the regular classroom!
Some days later it was finally time: 17 youngsters of our English master class in the Nuremberg Schauspielhaus - a clear recipe for disaster! Arriving, we met in the lobby and then went to look for our seats. The expectations were low, but the spirit even higher. At first the stage props or rather the lack thereof captured our attention. An arrangement of cloth was draped over the stage changing with the course of the play, showcasing intimacy. Another interesting aspect was the gender swap of the protagonists, making the play feel fresh and unique. The music and sounds also added to the emotional depth. It was fun to see the actors play the scenes we had already rehearsed and to recognize the passages we acted ourselves. In the end we left pleasantly surprised but also with a bit of second-hand embarrassment. Still, all in all it was an experience we won‘t forget and made us understand the play better.
